- Monte GordoOnly 3 km away from Vila Real de Santo António, this old fishing village situated between a vast pine tree plantation and the sea was a pioneer in the tourism development in Algarve, with the construction of one of the first hotels in the region in the 60s.  With a long and beautiful beach, a good climate and several pedestrian areas, built in the traditional Portuguese sidewalk, Monte Gordo is one of the main Algarve tourist destinations.  In addition to the beach, Monte Gordo offers other leisure activities as the Casino and a great number of bars and restaurants where you will be able to appreciate the Algarve gastronomy rich in fish and shellfishes. Worth of mentioning is also the procession of Nossa Senhora das Dores in the 2nd Sunday of September, followed by fishing boats, meticulously decorated, throughout all the bay waters.

Architectural Heritage

Church of Nossa Senhora das Dores – Antique temple, possibly as old as the village of Monte Gordo.  It has, underneath, vestiges of another church that the sands buried.
